What happened.

First meeting of the semester, many new members. Kyle, Darren, and Jack are the only three who remain from spring. Everyone introduced themselves, took a look at the electronics inventory, and discussed a few project ideas and previous projects/experience that members have with building things.

Put the legs on the robot and wired everything. Could have calibrated the robot and got it walking, but not many people were here so we decided to wait.

Toured the technology building with an emphasis on inventorying every machine and component that exists inside of it. Found out we have around 150k of toys to play with: 3D printers, laser engravers, CNC, welding, tons of unopened electronics, aviation lab, supercomputer, milling.

Finished sorting all electronics components. Have wires in bags, and separate containers for microcontrollers, sensors & motors, sensors, caps & misc components, and LED/buzzer/buttons.

Got Raspbian working along with Thonny (IDE) and all of the major files for the PiCrawler downloaded; Michaela is the goat. Now all we have to do is get the legs attached next time, calibrate them with the console, and should be able to start running code on it! Kyle and Justin got VS Code and the Arduino IDE installed and got multiple lights to blink at random intervals and had a push button control them and we almost sorted all of the electronics items into baggies and respective bins. Made another list for purchases and sent it over to Professor Chandler, hopefully it gets cleared so we have even more stuff to work on over summer and can prepare for the fall semester.

Assembled more of the PiCrawler robot and ordered two pizzas. Still not able to get the Pi software working, but next time we should be able to. Got all four of the legs and joints put together, just need to attach the servos next time. Also need to organize more of the new items we got delivered from AliExpress.

Picked up all Amazon supplies from the math department; AliExpress items should hopefully be here next week; opened/sorted all components, assembled 1/3 of the PiCrawler, downloaded Pi BIOS and Arduino IDE, made a light blink.

Met via Zoom with Professor Chandler and discussed club funding and various questions we came up with in previous meetings. Found out we get $500/year for funding. Sent over a list of Arduino and Pi items for Professor Chandler to try and get the approval to purchase. Hopefully we will have some items to work with by the next meeting.

Pitched project ideas and decided that for now we are just going to work on individual projects with the club funds and also help one another with those projects. We decided that we are not familiar with what is possible yet and a large-scale project that we all work on in tandem is just not something we can do with our current skill sets and lack of experience, but that will likely change in the coming weeks. Kyle decided on making a trebuchet, Jack is working on a cloud chamber, Michaela is going to do stuff with electronics and Pis and Arduinos and possibly use that for outreach and getting non-STEM people involved or interested in science, but most importantly she will buy a bunch of assets we can use on future projects, and Justin is going to make some kind of flying apparatus. We decided that we will construct part lists by the next meeting so we can get everything ordered and officially break ground on our projects after spring break.

First meeting of the semester. Elected Justin Tate as president, Michaela as VP, Kyle as treasurer, Jack as secretary. Talked about what we want this club to possibly become. Created this document, exchanged contact information, created Microsoft Teams chat, bounced around ideas for future projects.
